One Last Thing :)

Wow... it's hard to think that I am finally done with the 23 things. Some of my favorite things were flickr, TeacherPop, Animoto, and many more. Finding out how to use these other sites will help me in my teaching career and also making me a better teacher for my students. I think that I was surprised by how much information and available technology is out there for teachers to use for themselves, and also for their students. I think that this program was spot on. It taught me things that I had no idea about, and I'm walking away with a ton of knowledge about this technology. I will keep up with the new developments by always searching for new tools or new ideas that will be helpful for me.
I will keep using this blog for others, but mainly for me. I like the idea of keeping an online journal expressing my ideas or thought that others might want to comment on. This has been a great experience for me and I am very thankful for this class because I now feel very knowledgeable about using technology.

I think that thing #7 is a good example of creative commons. I took another person's picture, but I gave them credit at the end of my blog for their work. I also had to create a power point informing second graders on what the creative commons and copyright laws were and how they worked. I have to know my about these laws in order to teach it to my classroom. I think that it is important for my students to understand these important laws.

I choose this binder because it has great information not only for me, but also for my students. It gives great ideas for lessons, and games for the students. I have never used this site so I am thankful for the 23 things for introducing me to this. It is something that will be very useful for me when I start creating my own lesson plans.

I love using animoto! I have never used a site like this or created a video quite like this with my own pictures. Doing this exercise was fun and new for me. I created this video because I has so much fun on my trip to the Bahamas, and the pictures/sites were breathtaking. It will be a great tool to use in the classroom because it will keep students engaged and it's fun for the teacher to create.

I think that I am really going to enjoy using TeacherPop. It is simple to use, and also very helpful for me at the same time. The only thing is you have to be approved before you can become a member, but afterwords it's a great site to use if you're going to be a teacher. It will be great to share information with others, and to explore new things. It reminds me a lot of facebook, but only for teachers :).

 I love youtube first of all, and I think people should use it if they haven't already. You can find videos of literally almost everything. The reason that I choose this video is because they showed it to us in church one day, and it is an amazing video showing how much his father loved his son. It is such a strong video that when I feel like I can't do something I remember this and how his father swam with him on his back, biked with him, and then ran pushing him in the wheelchair... I know that I can. I just think that this is a great inspirational video that people need to at least give a chance and watch. I think that this would be useful if you were looking for demonstrations on how to do certain things in the classroom. I think it would be great to use for the classroom to show students different informational videos that apply to that subject.

Thing #18

 I think that it is important for educators to know how social networking works because there is so much valuable things out there on these sites. Its a great way for teachers to be friends with one another and collaborate with each other on various ideas they might have for the classroom to make them more effective. Having a facebook account, I find this site easier for me to use since I've been using it for a while. Twitter is also a very good network as well though because you can get other feeds from educators that have information that is important. I don't generally like twitter, I feel like it is just like facebook, but only has you update your status. I found some classroom applications though on twitter which made me like it more. I had fun exploring new things on twitter. I guess it just takes some getting used to.

I love using delicious.com! It is a great site for me to bookmark other sites that are great not only for me but other people. I can look something up for research that is important and then bookmark it on this site and not have to worry about forgetting it later. It's something that I wish I had known about in high school. Also, you can research stuff on here that can also be of use to you and bookmark it. I will use this for my classroom because it is useful and I also think that students of the right grade will enjoy using it, and also find it easier to use.

Thing #16

The page that I choose was the iGoogle, mainly because I have created one before on my computer at home so I was familiar with it and still like it the most. I haven't had the time to make it my permanent home page on my laptop, but it is something I will do very soon! Online calendars can be very useful to me cause I have a busy schedule with playing basketball in college and then trying to fit in time for studies. I like the idea of keeping everything organized so I know what's coming up and what I need to prepare for. I don't think that I'm to big of a fan with the to-do lists. I feel like I already put everything on my calendar so what's the point of putting them on the to-do list. They might be helpful if I were making a grocery list.. maybe.

I thought that the wiki idea would be great for teachers to use to post and collaborate about different ideas on their own page. It seemed like it was a really easy site for me to use, so I'm sure that others will find them very easy as well. I thought that it would be a cool idea to use it in the classroom with older students so that they can explore different things on wiki. It would be great for them to post things about a certain question or subject and then discus why they feel a certain way. It hasn't been my favorite site so far, but it's something that I think that is useful and can be very educational.

I choose to use Gliffy for the flow chart and Mindmeister for the mind map. I really liked using mindmeister the best though. I felt that it kept all the ideas I had in a nice order, and I also liked how easy it was so that even my students would be able to use it in the classroom. I even got a little carried away playing around with the different tools it offered and ideas. I think it is a great site for teachers and students, however I think that you can only sign up for like three mind maps, and then you have to pay to keep using it? Not too sure about that, it's something that I need to look into it. Gliffy was a fun site as well. I thought it was good at keeping and organized flow chart and fun to use. However, some parts of it were a little difficult to work with, but overall a good site to creat flow charts on.

After exploring these two sites, I think that I rather prefer the Google Docs just for the fact it was easier for me to create things that I wanted on it. I will use this probably in my future career just because of easy it was for me to use. I found that the Zoho was a little bit confusing for me so that explains why I didn't like it as well.
I think that students could work collaboratively together by using Google Docs in many ways. If they had an assignment to compare and create a spreadsheet of the top ten tallest mountains in the world, they could do so using that. They can create presentations, drawings, documents, spreadsheets, etc,. using Google Docs. If  I teach in the higher grades of K-6 I will more than likely use this site for my students in the classroom.

Thing #12

I think that I am going to start using iGoogle as a home page from now on. The features that it has are so helpful/useful to me and I love it. I also enjoy using the google calendar because I have a busy lifestyle with sports, class, and trying to find time to study. So using this will help out a tremendous amount to me. I think these programs are great for anyone who loves google like I do.

Thing #4

Commenting helps create a sense of interaction by people commenting on each other's bogs, giving ideas, or expressing their opinions. Teachers could use commenting to one another as a helping tool to them. If a teacher is having difficulties with a lesson in class, other teachers could comment on their blog to give them ideas that may have worked for them. I think that it is important to listen to everyone's opinion because they might have a valid point. Also, when people make a comment on another's blog, they need to make it worth the  bloggers time in my opinion.

Thing #11

The method that was easiest for me was the google blog search. For me it was easy to navigate on, and it gave me lots of topics relating well to my search. I thought that the syndic8 was the hardest for me because I guess I am just used to the way google and how it works. It was just difficult to navigate and find what I was looking for. When I typed in 'teaching ideas for second grade math', so many helpful links popped up. So I will be using this in the future for sure. When I typed the same thing into syndic8, I did not get any results. I had to change the wording completely and I stil did not find what I was looking for.
After playing with some of the search tools, I think that in time it just takes getting used to how different they are and how they work. They are all probably very good search engines, but I like google blog search the best.

 I like that you can store all of your favorite sites on this one page. For me, I sometimes have problems with remembering important sites, or places that would be of important use to me. It's very useful if I want to look at all of the blogs that I am following as well. When doing certain work, I can simply go to RSS and find a website and always be connected to it without have to worry about forgetting the url. Teachers are so busy as it is, by the end of the school day it's hard to find time to search forever finding sites that might be of use to them. A teacher can use RSS to get other ideas from colleagues and keep websites/blogs that are useful to them in their classrooms.

Using the different generators that were listed turn out being quite fun. I got to explore different ideas, pictures, comics, etc,. I really enjoyed imagechef.com because I got to see so many colorful and fun things that I could create by just browsing.  I play basketball here at APSU so I thought that picking the basketball jersey would be fitting to this blog. The other site that I liked the most was comicstripgenerator.com. They had tons of different comic pictures that you could choose from, then insert your own words. I would use the comic strip website because I think it would be neat to have pictures saying turn homework in here, or don't forget to wash. Simple things like that to me, bring color to the room and makes the students somewhat more comfortable. These sites could also be used for the students to create their own comics or pictures to show their creative side.
. In your post, be sure to include ways you might use these image generators in the library, classroom or personally.

I think that the mashups could be used in the classroom. Students could use them to create a mashup of pictures that interest them or even on a school project. Flickr is a great site for people who love pictures and like to create new things with them. I wouldn't mind uploading some of my own pictures to flickr. However, I'm not to sure that I would put pictures of my family and friends on the internet because they may not want to be on here. I love the site and the many different things that you can create on here.

I really enjoyed looking around on flickr for pictures. I've heard about it from other people but I guess I never took the time to really go and look. I've already joined the site because I love looking at other people's photos and also sharing some of my own.
I picked this picture because I have loved horses since before I could walk. I was born into a family that rode horses nearly every weekend, and they would carry me on them as a baby. This first time I rode a horse by myself was when I was three years old. As a young girl, that was the most proud moment that I can remember. We've raised horses on our farm, and the most precious moment is when the foal (baby horse) finally gets their legs under them for a while, and start prancing around and playing like a little kid. They are so full of life and young and I think that it's one of the most beautiful things to watch. What can I say, I love horses. :)

When I first went to the link with all the Web 2.0 sites, I went straight to the categories with the camera beside it. I love to look at pictures and take pictures, so I guess it's kind of like my little hobby. I really love the flickr site however, I decided to pick one that you can edit your own photos on which is picnik. Picnik.com allows you to do so many neat things with your pictures. You can keep the original picture that you took, and then upload it to the site and fix anything from red eye, blemishes, color, focus, etc,. I think that this could be used in a school because I know there are pictures taken for the school yearbooks. If there was a certain picture that they wanted in the yearbook but was a little out of focus or a student had red eye, they could simply upload it to picnik and make changes to the picture. This is a site that I am looking forward to using because of all of the neat features it give to the public.

Thing #5

I am the kind of person who loves to learn new things. When I was introduced to Web 2.0 I was a little unsure becauase I did not know what all it entailed. However, now after exploring around on it, I have found things that will be very useful for not only to me but also to my students in the classroom with. It is a place were teachers can find useful and valid information to help better their knowledge for teaching their students to their full capability. I will continue to use Web 2.0 on into my teaching career because the technology and ideas are always changing, and it is my job to do all that I can for my students. I believe that School 2.0 shows where the future of the school systems/classrooms are headed towards. Schools of the future might just be all on a computer for the student to where they will never have to step inside the doors of the classroom.

There are so many things that I would be able to use a blog for in my teacher education program. It would be a great place for me to talk about different activities or techniques that I used in the classroom that worked well, and what did not. It could also be used for my students if I wanted to post a homework assignment or other matierials on here that I would want them to explore. I would probably even encourage them to either get a blog now or later on because, I think that it would be very helpful to them and their fellow classmates. Also if they had a question about the homework they could communicate through blogging as well. Who knows, maybe their parents would get blogs so that they could also follow what their child was doing in the classroom and could get tips from my blog on how to help them with the material.

The hardest part was coming up with a name for my posting and blog. The 23 things gives us suggestions about coming up with names that are creative and not containg your name excpet for the your last name. When it all came down to it I guess I went for the boring and just chose my name because it's easier for me and the people if they choose to follow me.

I thought that creating this blog was easy until I started picking out how my avatar would look. There were so many combinations that I could choose from that I probably tried almost all of them :). I'm a pretty laid back person and I think that my avatar reflects that because the avatar just looks simple I guess. I wanted to avatar to look as close to me as I could get it because I wanted people to know a little bit more about me than just my name. So far this blogging stuff isn't so bad at all I think. I love learning the new things in class. Some of them are a real time saver that I plan to use in my classroom.

Thing #1

The hardest lifelong habbit for me would have to be view problems as challenges. I am the kind of person who sometimes tries to avoid problems when I can. However, when that isn't possible I then try to fix it as fast as I can and move on from it. There are a few things that when a problem arrises I feel more comfortable with learning from it and facing it as a challenge. In areas that I am not familiar with, I find myself more nervous and worried about taking them on as strongly, compared to problems that I am familiar with. I usually find myself in a rush, so when a problem arises, it is hard for me to take a moment, step back from the situation, and try to learn/find a way to solve it.

The easiest of the lifelong habbits for me would be begin with the end in mind, and create your own learning toolbox. I have always been the type of person to set goals in my life. Whether it be riding a horse by myself at the age of three, getting an A on an english paper, or getting a degree in education. I have always set up steps along the way to help achieve these goals. I plan to set up goals for this class so that I become a computer savvy person, and I know my way around the use of technology better. I think I'm also good at creating my own learning toolbox. I take in what sources I can to help me better understand information that I would need to obtain for a class, or something work related. I love to use the internet for finding different information and learning things that I didn't know before. I have kept papers, worksheets, tests, and so on, from high school into college. I think that keeping these things are great resources for things that might pop up in the future that relate to that specific topic.

Coming into this class not knowing exactly what would take place, I have to say I was not liking the idea of having to creat a blog and later on having to join twitter. I had no idea how to blog and I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to. Dr. Jerles made the process sound easy and harmless, and by the end of this semester we would know how to do/create many different things. I am very excited to learn more about the technology that we have during our day and age. Creating this blog wasn't as hard as I thought it would be while listening to Dr. Jerles talk about it to the class. I liked playing around with the different options that blogger.com has to offer for our blogs. I look forward to also learning more tools relating to Web 2.0. This blog process is a new one for me, but I am eager and ready to learn more.
